- St. Valentine was a bishop and imprisoned for marrying Christian couples and helping other Christians that were being persecuted by Claudius in Rome.
- Saint Valentine tried to convert Claudius, but instead was sentenced to death. He was told to either renounce his faith or be beaten with clubs and beheaded.
- While he was imprisoned, he healed a jailer’s daughter who was blind. On the day of his execution, he left her a note signed, “Your Valentine.” He was executed of February 14, 269.
